The Choice
In The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan, Percy(the hero) is cast onto an island after being blasted away by a volcano(this was around the middle of the book while on a quest). During his time on the island he is very weak and is treated by a girl named Calypso. The more time he spends on the island he develops feelings for her as she gets feelings for him. He learns that she was put on the island as punishment by the gods of Olympus for helping the Titans in the great war. He also learns that he has a choice. He could stay on the island and be with Calypso forever because the island would make him immortal or he could leave to help his friends, Tyson, Grover, and Annabeth. If he leaves he would never be able to come back. He decides that he must leave to help his friends. This makes Calypso sad but she understands why he had to leave. Knowing that he could have stayed and that he could have stayed with Calypso he would always remember her and it would be his biggest What-if. So Percy leaves the island on his way to Camp Half-Blood.
