The Book Thief

I am reading the book, The Book Thief by Marcus Zusac. so far i have to say that this book is very good. I like how the narrator is death. The main topic that i want to talk about today, is Liesil's mother. She seems very mean, and i know that Liesil doesn't like her. She hit liesil for mailing a letter to her mother. her original mother, not her foster mother. Her mom also gets into fights with the neighbors. She curses and Liesil has now picked up on those and uses them very much. i think that her new foster mother is not a good parent because she has a bad influence on Liesil. Now Liesil has already gotten into fights at school. I think that was also influenced by her mother. What i am really wondering, is if this new foster mother is good or bad for her. She only has one thing that is better that Liesil's old mother and that is her financial situation. Her new mother actually has a job. Unlike Liesil's old mother. Which is why i think that Liesil needed foster parents. Now on the other end of the family, her father is a great man. He is kind, he is even teaching Liesil how to read, even though he cannot read very well himself. He shows her how to write with the paint he has. And he is a great father. Liesil's former mother was a great lady, she was very nice and was treating Liesil well. She never cursed, and never got into fights with her neighbors. So you can make the decision, which family i better for Liesil? New or old?

  1. Nice character analysis, Sam. Liesel's foster parents sound like complicated characters. I'd be interested in seeing how your thinking about them changes over the course of reading the book.
